Your privacy on this site
Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of A.A., and it would be a poor show if our website undermined it. This page says plainly what happens when you visit.
The short version
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and has no tracking or advertising of any kind. We do not know who visits, we build no profile of you, and there is no account to create. Nothing you type into this site is sent to us.
The “Am I an alcoholic?” self-check
The questions on the self-check run entirely inside your own browser. Your answers are never transmitted anywhere, never saved, and never seen by anybody but you. Close the tab and they are gone. If you are using a shared or family computer and would rather leave no trace in the browser history, use a private window.
“Near me” on the meeting finder
If you press Near me, your browser will ask your permission before sharing your location. If you agree, the co-ordinates are used inside your browser to sort the meeting list by distance and to centre the map. They are not sent to us and not stored. You can decline and still use every other part of the finder — searching by town or suburb works just as well.
We have no contact form
That is deliberate. There is no form on this site that collects your name, number or story. If you want to reach us you phone, message or email the KZN Intergroup directly, so your details go to A.A. members and nowhere else.
When you do contact us, we use what you tell us only to help you. A.A. keeps no membership lists, attendance records or case histories, and we do not confirm to anybody — family, employer, court or another member — whether a particular person has been in touch or attends meetings.
Who else sees a request when you load this page
A few things on this site are served by other organisations. By the nature of how the web works, they receive your IP address and browser details when your browser fetches a file from them. We send them nothing about you beyond that, and none of them are analytics or advertising services.
- Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
- Google Fonts (
fonts.googleapis.com,fonts.gstatic.com) serves the two typefaces the site uses. - Cloudflare cdnjs (
cdnjs.cloudflare.com) serves the mapping library on the meetings page. - OpenStreetMap (
tile.openstreetmap.org) serves the map tiles, and only when you view the map.
If you follow a link away from this site — to WhatsApp, to A.A. South Africa, to Google Maps for directions — you are then covered by that organisation’s privacy policy, not ours.
Meeting information
The meeting list shows group meeting places and times, which A.A. groups publish so that people can find them. It contains no personal information about members. If your group’s entry is wrong, or you would like something removed, tell the Intergroup and we will change it.
Your rights
South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Because this website collects nothing, in practice there is normally nothing to ask about — but if you have contacted the Intergroup and want to know what we hold, or want it deleted, email kzn@aasouthafrica.org.za and we will deal with it.
Changes to this page
If the site ever starts doing something that affects your privacy, this page will be updated to say so before it happens.
This page describes how the website behaves. It is a plain-language statement rather than legal advice, and the KZN Intergroup may wish to have it reviewed.
